Statement of Educational Philosophy:

Everyone can learn.  Everyone has abilities.  Everyone needs to stretch to reach their potential.  It is the responsibility of educational institutions to provide resources, structure and encouragement for their students to achieve their potential.

Despite the dictionary, teaching is intransitive; learning is transitive.  The changes, for which we strive, occur in the STUDENT.

The teacher's (and school's) responsibility is to provide the structure, resources, assessments and encouragement for/to the student.  The student's responsibility is to use the provided structure, resources, assessments and encouragement to increase their knowledge and (more importantly) their abilities; and, to use their knowledge and abilities to participate in, and contribute to our society.

A student that just looks up the answer to a question in the text, learns to copy the answer; begins to train themself for the minimum.  A student that studies the material, works for understanding, and develops the ability to use the information, becomes educated and useful to themself and society.

A student that waits for education to happen to them will wait forever.

Advice to My Students:

Take it as it comes, don't procrastinate!  If you do your assignments when they are assigned, and as you have time, you will complete them on time.  More importantly, you will have the time to LEARN from the assignments.  You will have the time to seek help on the assignment, if needed.

One of the most important lessons we can learn: When to know when we need help.  We all need help sometimes!

Another important lesson: How to seek help.  The teacher, actually, wants to help you learn, grow, stretch, and develop your abilities.  (Secret: Teachers like to help students learn, grow, stretch, and develop their abilities.)
